Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Course:   

The Diploma course requires a minimum of 240 hours contact time; attendance can be negotiated, however the syllabus is a very practical course covering fundamental engineering skills.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate their capability under assessment conditions having completed a comprehensive period of training.

Achievement of the required standards of this course will lead to the award of a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations accredited by EAL Ltd.

Course Content

During the course, trainees will need to complete six units of competence. The following three mandatory units will be trained and assessed:

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements.
  • Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation.
  • Working efficiently and effectively in engineering.

Trainees choose a further three units more specific to their trade. Trainees with no engineering experience are recommended to select the Bench Fitting Techniques unit plus two other units of interest.

Qualification

NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.

This qualification is industry recognised under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and has a credit value of 69.

Welding training is delivered in accordance with the requirements of BS 4872-1 which means successful assessment could allow trainees to qualify as a coded welder.

  • School leavers.
  • Foundation level Apprentices.
  • People wanting to re-train to update their welding skills.

Duration

  • 240 hours minimum contact time.
  • Mode of attendance can be negotiated.

Canal Engineering Ltd

Our Training Academy is located on Lenton Lane at the HQ of Canal Engineering.

Canal Engineering is a busy fabrication and welding company with 100 employees on site. Trainees will benefit from seeing first-hand the activities involved in engineering operations as well as being required to conform to real safe working practises, production and quality management systems.

This is not a simulated training environment although trainees will normally be under close, expert supervision in the dedicated Engineering Training Academy.
